Know the Stop Signs
Stop signs posted on patient room doors inform employees and visitors about what
specific transmission-based precautions are required to enter the room. Mini-STOP
signs are placed on medical charts of patients requiring isolation. These signs are color
coded and in three languages, English, Spanish, and Creole.
Stop signs may also indicate combinations of
precautions such as Contact/Airborne,
Contact/Droplet, and others. Be sure to
follow ALL precautions indicated.
The stop sign below indicates precautions
for patients that have compromised immune
systems and need additional protection from
transmissions.
Such conditions requiring these precautions
are those that decrease white blood count
such as Neutropenia or Granulocytopenia.
