The Joint Commission (TJC) & Accreditation
Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC)
What is the purpose of TJC &
AAAHC surveys?
• Our endoscopy and ambulatory surgery
facilities participate in AAAHC surveys
and the hospitals and the rest of our
nonhospital sites participate in TJC
surveys. This is one way to improve our
quality of care and safety as well as to
maintain Medicare and Medicaid
certification.
• TJC and AAAHC surveyors take an in-
depth look at our patient care processes,
policies, staff competence and leadership.
• TJC surveys are unannounced and can
occur anytime but usually every 3 years,
whereas AAAHC surveys are scheduled
and occur every 3 years.
• You may be interviewed by a surveyor as
part of your job.
