The Joint Commission (TJC) & Accreditation
Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC)
What is the purpose of TJC &
AAAHC surveys?
• We participate in TJC surveys as one way
to improve our quality of care and safety
as well as to maintain Medicare and
Medicaid certification.
• Our endoscopy and ambulatory surgery
facilities participate in AAAHC surveys
and the rest of our nonhospital sites
participate in TJC surveys.
• TJC & AAAHC Surveyors take an in-depth
look at our patient care processes,
policies, staff competence and leadership.
• TJC surveys are unannounced and can
occur anytime but usually every 3 years,
whereas AAAHC surveys are scheduled
and occur every 3 years.
• You may be interviewed by a surveyor as
part of your job.
