Disasters
Internal and External Disasters
Events such as fires, accidental releases of hazardous material,
severe weather or acts of terrorism can all result in disasters. If
such an event occurs within a Baptist Health facility it is called
an "internal disaster".
When these events occur in our community but not within one
of our facilities it is called an "external disaster". Because so
many different events can result in disasters, Baptist Health
uses a standard "all hazards" approach to response.
When disaster plans are activated, our facilities may open their
Incident Command centers and institute the use of the
Hospital Incident Command System (HICS).
