Influenza Vaccination
The flu vaccine most commonly used is an attenuated
vaccine (containing killed virus) that is given in the arm.
About 2 weeks after vaccination, antibodies develop in
the body that provides protection against influenza
virus infection.
Who should be vaccinated?
The flu vaccine is approved for use in people older
than 6 months, including healthy people and people
with chronic medical conditions.
As a healthcare worker it should be considered a
professional responsibility which protects them and is
also a part of patient safety responsibilities.
Annual vaccination is the best defense against influenza. For that reason, all Baptist Health
employees are required to get the annual influenza vaccine as a condition of employment.
Each year, they are required to get the vaccine by the date specified in the annual notification. Free
flu vaccinations are offered through Employee Health Services.
Any employee who wishes to apply for an exemption must do so by the stated deadline in the
notification. If granted, employee must have a special badge during flu season and wear a hospital-
approved mask at all times upon entrance into or while working at any Baptist Health hospital or
clinical facility during the influenza season.
For further information please see your Employee Health nurse.
