In order to protect each other and the community, all staff
must close red (Biohazard) bags to keep contents from
escaping. Free fluids are not to be discarded in BMW bags.
When red bags are full (*do not overfill), tie bag, and
store waste for pickup in a restricted room.

           Properly tying a biohazard bag is as easy as 1, 2, 3 . . .
           Gather, twist, and tie
           1. While wearing gloves, gather the 4 edges of the red bag from the sides of the container.
           2. Twist the top of the bag to seal its contents.
           3. Secure the seal with a strong, hand-tied single or gooseneck knot to prevent any leakage
if inverted. Ensure that the bag is completely closed.

If biomedical waste is accidentally placed in any container
or bag other than a red bag and/or container, the entire
content of that container must then be placed in the
appropriate red bag and/or container and treated as
biomedical waste (the image on the right demonstrates
                                         this problem).

All containers in which BMW is placed are labeled with the
Biohazardous sign. This facilitates those responsible to
assure proper segregation, storage, transport, and disposal.

Note: Employees who sign the manifest must have additional training.
