National Patient Safety Goals
Prevention of healthcare associated infections (HAI) including:
• Device associated infections – examples: CAUTI, CLABSI, VAP)
• HAI with MDROs – examples: MRSA, VRE, Carbapenem Resistant
Enterobacteriaceae (CRE)
• Surgical site infections
. . . are part of the Joint Commission’s National Patient Safety Goals.
Their ultimate goal is to improve patient safety and decrease or eliminate adverse
outcomes associated with these infections.
Consistent use of the evidence-based measures for infection prevention included in
this module will facilitate the creation of a zero harm environment for our patients.
