National Patient Safety Goals (2)
The following is information regarding surgical site infections (SSI) and two HAIs
associated with devices, catheter associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI) and
central line associated blood stream infections (CLABSI).
SSI
Surgical site Infections (SSI) are the second most frequently reported healthcare
associated infections and are responsible for significant morbidity and mortality in our
patients. SSI increases length of stay by an average of 7-10 days. We must do
everything possible to protect our patients from SSI by following evidence-based
practices known to decrease SSI.
